Preparing your dog for a boarding stay requires careful planning and consideration, especially when you have a larger breed. We’ve put together a general checklist to help ensure your dog’s comfort and well-being while you’re away.
Packing Checklist
Food and Treats
Pack enough of your dog’s regular food for the duration of the stay, plus extra in case of delays. You can also include your dog’s favorite treats to provide comfort and positive reinforcement during the stay.
Medications and Supplements
Bring all necessary medications your dog requires, along with clear instructions for administration. Include any supplements recommended by your veterinarian with instruction on how and when they are administered.
Bedding and Comfort Items
Bring your dog’s bed or a familiar blanket to provide comfort and a sense of security. You may also want to include a few favorite toys or chew items to keep your dog entertained.
Leash, Collar, and ID Tags
Ensure your dog has a sturdy collar with identification tags that include your contact information. You will also want to pack a leash for walking your dog during drop-off and pick-up.
Medical Records and Contact Information
Provide a copy of your dog’s medical records, including vaccination history and emergency contacts. Write down your veterinarian’s contact information in case of any health concerns. At Big Dog Boarding, we make it easy to know exactly what information we need. Simply fill out our Registration Form and Boarding Waiver ahead of time and you will be all set at drop off time. At Big Dog Boarding, you can text these to us ahead of time at (214) 236-7765 or bring printed copies with you to drop off.
Special Instructions
Make sure you provide detailed instructions for feeding, medication, exercise, and any specific care needs your dog may have. Communicate openly with the boarding staff about your dog’s personality, behaviors, and any concerns you have. This helps us provide personalized care.
A good boarding facility wants to make sure your dog has an enjoyable stay. By providing these details, we can ensure your dog is happy, healthy and comfortable while you are away.
No-Stress Boarding
By following this checklist and incorporating these tips, you can ensure a smooth and stress-free boarding experience for your dog, whether they are a large breed or not. Remember, preparation and communication are key to ensuring your dog feels safe and comfortable while you’re away.
Drop off and Pick Up
As a reminder, Big Dog Boarding offer drop off hours Monday through Saturday from 7am to 9am and pick up hours daily from 4pm to 6pm. We ask you to adhere to these hours to minimize the stress and disruption for all dogs boarding with us.
